More about Paul:
Mr. Paul Midiri, along with his brother Joe, co-lead the 16-piece Midiri Brothers Orchestra as well as various small group jazz ensembles. The Midiri Brothers Sextet performs jazz arrangements of standards as well as originals. The big band performs classics as well as newer standards, in a jazz setting.
Paul’s many instrumental talents lend a special versatility to the Midiri band’s unique sound. While Paul excels on trombone with the big band, his specialty is jazz vibraphone with the sextet. His extended virtuosity includes the drums and he is renowned for his great brush work. Paul’s love for the vibes has lead him to arrange numerous pieces for the sextet, to give this instrument a proper setting in a jazz ensemble.
The sextet has also performed across country in many jazz festivals including the Costa Mesa Orange County Classic Jazz Festival in California, the Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee, Sun Valley Jazz Jubilee, the Great Connecticut JazzFest, Pennsylvania Jazz Festival.
Since 1990, Mr. Paul Midiri has performed with the Midiri Brothers various jazz ensembles performing at the East Coast’s premier venues including the Rainbow Room in New York, Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal, Sands, Showboat and Caesars casinos, as well as their Orchestra performing for thousands each year at Philadelphia’s Penn’s Landing. From 1996-1998, the Midiri Brothers Orchestra was featured in a very successful series of big band broadcasts through WRDR radio (104.9 FM). From the Grand Theatre of the Atlantic City Hilton Casino, the Midiri Brothers Orchestra performed for capacity crowds and hundreds of swing dancers as the resident band for the only live big band broadcast on the East Coast! Since 1995, Joe and Paul’s swinging Sextet has been featured on the New Orleans Square Bandstand at the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
In March of 2003, Paul gave a performance with a quartet saluting one of his idols on the vibes, Red Norvo. The sextet has also performed across country in many jazz festivals including the Costa Mesa Orange County Classic Jazz Festival in California, the Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee, the Great Connecticut JazzFest, Pennsylvania Jazz Festival.
The Midiri Brothers released their fifth CD, Trees, in June, 2004.
